McTominay collects William Hill Men's International Player of the Year

Scott McTominay has been named the William Hill Men's International Player of the Year.

The Manchester United midfielder topped the vote in emphatic fashion as his stunning form for Steve Clarke’s side over the last year was recognised by Association members. McTominay was joined on the shortlist by Angus Gunn, John McGinn and Callum McGregor.

McTominay finished the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with seven goals, plus one assist, to his credit as he played a hugely influential role in securing Scotland’s spot at the Championships this summer.

A brace in the victory over Cyprus was followed by two more strikes in a historic success against Spain at Hampden. The 27-year-old also netted home and away against Georgia and in the 3-0 win in Cyprus.

McTominay will be presented with his prize at the 2024 SFWA Player of the Year dinner on Sunday, 19 May at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Glasgow.

Chick Young, President of the SFWA, said: “It was beginning to look like John McGinn had a vice like grip on the award… so it says so much about the performance level of Scott this season.

“He won by a street proving that football writers do know their business.

“Brilliantly done, Scott. We doff our caps to you. Now the hat-tricks in Germany are on you.”

It is also time for members to vote for our second award of the season, the Women’s International Player of the Year.

The Committee have selected Rachel Corsie, Erin Cuthbert and Nicola Docherty as the shortlist and the poll will close at midnight on Friday, March 29.
