Women's International Player of the Year

THE four contenders for the SFWA Glen's Women's International Player of the Year have been revealed.

Real Madrid star Caroline Weir lifted the inaugural prize last season and is again on the shortlist ahead of the annual SFWA awards dinner at the Doubletree by Hilton Glasgow Central Hotel on Sunday, May 28.

Weir - who has scored three goals in Scotland's 11 games over the past 12 months - is joined by Chelsea midfielder Erin Cuthbert, striker Claire Emslie, who plays with Angel City FC in California, and national skipper Rachel Corsie.

The award has once again been sponsored by Glen’s Vodka for this season and members have until Thursday, April 20 to cast their vote.

Scotland finished their Pinatar Cup campaign with one win, one draw and one defeat in February as four points were taken from the matches with The Philippines and Wales following a 2-0 defeat to Iceland in the opening fixture.

A 1-0 win over Australia - earned thanks to a Nicola Docherty effort - came before Pedro Martinez Losa’s side returned to Hampden with a fine victory against Costa Rica.

Emslie and Weir were both on target as Emma Watson netted twice to round off the season in style for Scotland as they completed an impressive double against two sides who are heading to the World Cup this summer.
