Scottish Young Player of the Year nominations short-list revealed
The shortlist for this year's Scottish Football Writers' Association Doubletree by Hilton Young Player of the Year has been revealed.
Five players have made the cut with the winner of the coveted award to be revealed in the coming days.
Calvin Ramsay, Nathan Patterson, Josh Doig, Ross Graham and Stephen Welsh are the players nominated for the prize.
Ramsay as enjoyed a sensational breakthrough campaign at Aberdeen. The 18-year-old has made the right back slot at Pittodrie his own this season making 32 appearances in all competitions.
His sparkling club form hasn't gone unnoticed either.
Serie A side Bologna had a big money offer knocked back by Aberdeen in January, while the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United have been credited with an interest.
It's been a campaign of mixed fortunes for Patterson.
Despite only making 11 first team appearances for the Ibrox side, he was one of the club's prized assets and his potential prompted a £12 million offer from Everton to sign him in January.
It is on the international scene that Patterson has really made his mark this season, becoming Scotland's first choice right back under Steve Clarke.
Doig, our winner last year, has enjoyed another brilliant season, at least personally, for Hibs.
He has proved his versatility this campaign too, playing in several roles down Hibs' left hand side.
Doig has played both as a left centre back in a three, performed in a traditional left back role and also played in a more advanced wing back position..
The second half of the 2021/22 campaign has been a roaring success for Graham who has enjoyed a breakthrough at Dundee United after spending the first half of the season at Dunfermline,
The 21-year old has gone on to become a key man at Dundee United as they secured their top six status.
Having broken into the Celtic first team set up under Neil Lennon last season, you'd be forgiven for thinking Stephen Welsh hasn't been seen as much this campaign under Ange Postecoglou.
However, the 22-year old has in fact made more appearances this campaign having played 23 times in all competitions.
While he has so far been unable to break the strong partnership at the heart of the Celtic defence between Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt, his worth to the club was made clear when he penned a new four-year contract at Parkhead in January.
