John Docherty celebrates winning the 2021 SFWA championship

JOHN DOCHERTY is the new Football Writers’ golf champion after a dramatic victory at Dunblane.

The former Record man fired 38 points at the Stirlingshire venue – but that was matched by ex-Scotsman scribe Mike Aitken.

The Doc clinched it by virtue of a better inward half of 22 points to Mike’s 20. The two of them finished two points clear of Gordon Waddell, who sensationally made an eagle on the final hole.

Gary Campbell from our sponsors William Hill won the visitors’ prize, pipping colleague Darren Taylor. It was great to have the two of them with us.
