Matt's the master of Dundonald

Matthew Lindsay

HERALD and Times Chief Football Writer Matt Lindsay claimed his first SFWA golf title in a titanic battle over Dundonald Links.

Lindsay edged out multiple 'major' winner Iain Macfarlane by the slimmest of margins, winning on a better inward half of 19 points when the two were tied on 32 for 18 holes to take the Spring Outing.

It was also heartbreak for the Scottish Sun's Robert Grieve who had the title in his sights with two holes to go but just came up short on 31 points to finish third.

Former winner Mick Gannon showed he was the man for the pressure occasions. The Record man was closest to the pin at the par 3 6th hole and also showed his power from the tee winning the longest drive at the par 5 18th hole.

A superb day, organised brilliantly by Express and Star No1 Iain Macfarlane and generously sponsored by William Hill, was had by all competitors.
